Memory 1 - Day 121 - [SPOILER ALERT]
It isn't just him who's doing well, either, though he's clearly standing out in sheer wreckage he's the cause of-- his companions are beating their enemies thanks to his strategies. They get the enemy on the run, chase them into a nearby village, and this is the real blow to their enemy: Marnie's crew know the village way better, come by often to stock up and let loose, and their sudden terrain advantage makes them the overwhelming victors of that battle.
When the dust settles, their enemies are dead, and none of Marnie's men are. He's being dogpiled with congratulations, his people whooping and hollering with exhilaration, and Marnie's not so different. He's a little calmer, because it's not their judgment he's waiting for, but he's proud. He's sure he's proved himself-- surely it would be impossible to have a better result for a test like this. He didn't lose a single man, and even the village is largely unharmed! A barn burned down, sure, but that's negligible to mercenaries like them. Honestly, managing something like using this village without the whole place becoming a bloodbath of collateral damage is practically a miracle, but he managed it with hard work and clever tactics and a force that trusts him. He's not wrong to be smug.
It's not long before his uncle and cousin turn up, tugging him away from the celebration to inform him that yes, of course, he'd passed with flying colors. He'll definitely be the next leader of the Red Constellation. And how could he not? Pulling this off with only one civilian casualty was really just showing off at this point.
...One civilian casualty?
It shouldn't bother him, but who...?

Memory 2 - Day 253
In summary, this memory starts out with Randy and 3 other people getting yelled at by a superior in his office. It seems like they flubbed some kind of mission, but also like they're barely instated in their "Special Support Section". Randy can clearly hear when he mutters about removing their boss's power by getting rid of them. Their superior finishes by insisting they refuse their new assignment, and they are told to leave the office. Right outside the door, they meet two much more friendly coworkers who nonetheless try to drive home the point that they should ditch their new job pronto.
They then report to their actual boss, who ALSO explains that they are completely free to ditch, but that they are basically the RPG Adventurer part of the cops now. However, this is largely an attempt to get popularity for cops in the city in general, and is also awkward because there is like, actually a guild of adventurers.
Randy decides immediately that he'll stick around, and later that night Lloyd (the little brunette that he's already quite fond of) comes by his room to chat. Randy explains he's sticking around because it seems up his alley. He then also explains that he used to work for the border guard but got fired for dating a bunch of his coworkers at once (deeply untrue). The memory does not go out of its way to explain the ways in which it is untrue, just that he's a lying liar. He invites Lloyd out for a boy's night out if Lloyd sticks around too, and they part ways.
